Frame repairs and restoration advice
Accidents will happen especially when moving house or storing framed art. Don’t despair, most frames can be repaired or restored. We have years of experience in this field and also work closely with conservators which enables us to offer guidance, advice and restoration services including gilding.
Mount board replacement or redesign
Have you noticed that the beveled edge on the mounts has darkened over time? This could be an indication that mount board may not be acid free. In these circumstances it is advisable to bring your frame into our studio for assessment and advice. Should it be necessary we can replace the mount board whilst re-using your existing frame, glass etc.
Glass technology has improved considerably in recent years. We are now able to offer water white glass which is a low iron content glass giving much better optical clarity to artwork than ordinary picture glass. In addition we can now also offer anti reflective glass as well as a number of UV filtering glass options. If your art is difficult to see because of all the reflections you may wish to change the glass for ant reflective allowing you to view the artwork from almost any angle with little to no reflections. Broken the glass in your frame, no problem, we should be able to replace the glass for you while you wait depending on the type of glass you need.
Art work cleaning and restoration advice
Damage to artwork occurs over time and you may not always notice subtle changes in the work. If you see small brown spots appearing on the art, this is called foxing which can be caused by environmental pollution, acid or unstable climatic conditions.
In most cases this damage can be repaired by our paper conservator who will be able to advise on restoration of your artwork.
